Today I love….Kapai Puku

31 Jul

Yes, I am speaking English folks….

“One handful of Kapai Puku® may contain nearly five hundred individual life units, their capacity to promote your health and life are second to none.”

So I have been recently diagnosed with fatty liver infiltration….

I am 170cm tall and 71 kgs and am really not an ‘overweight’ person and I don’t really ‘feel’ overweight (only on some days!) but I must admit I am carrying a little extra bread rolls around my waist!

I can tell this because all of my old pants fit my legs and butt but not my waist!

Apparently I am the sort of person who puts on weight around their middle area only….I believe this is called an android body type….apparently liver problems can cause eczema and psoriasis so I believe this is also why my skin has been so bad lately….

So a while ago before I had this problem we tried a sample of a product at a market and it was called Kapai Puku….this stuff looks like bird seed (sorry folks!)….but I must admit it tasted bloody great!! It was mixed with milk and dried fruit – maybe sultanas and pear or paw paw…

So, on my new health kick I am of course on the hunt for this stuff….stay tuned for the results of the Kapai Puku!!!

This dude from Tour De France tips believes it is the wonder food as well!

“Here’s the deal with Kapai Puku. It’s epic. Epicly healthy. I eat it every day. Blows nearly every other cereal out of the water.”

You try going into a store or calling someone and asking for this stuff while keeping a straight face!

Go on you try and say it!!!

Today I love….Eating ice cream in front of the heater

31 Jul

Betcha can’t guess what I’m doing right now??

Well not quite that, but I do have a plan…and it involves ice cream and heat….another conundrum….

There is nothing better when it is cold than rugging up nice and warm with ugg boots, leggings, jumper & blankie and then eating my favourite ice cream…..

All toasty while sitting in front of the roaring hot heater!!!

Don’t forget to lick it…..quick!!!!

Today I love….Rachael Treasure

30 Jul

This woman is one hell of an Aussie!!!

She is worth her weight in gold for the wonderful work she does for working sheep dogs, women, their families and rural farming communities in this country.

What a woman she is!!!

As Rachael herself says:

“My life is made rich with the presence of animals in my life. I adore my sheep (Crossbreds and Merinos) and Hereford Cattle that are raised on all natural grass.

Our dogs are part of our family. We have both Kelpies and Collies, a Springer Spaniel for truffle harvest and a cheeky Jack Russell that’s great on cleaning my kitchen floor.

We use our horses for both social outings (riding down to the bar at the cricket club) or working stock on the farm. We also breed a few foals using good Aussie stockhorse or Waler genetics.”

My Mum got me reading her books and now I just can’t put them down – well, now I can because I have read them all and I need Rachael to write more for me and her many other fans!!

Today I love….Athletic Dress

30 Jul

I love this dress….

Although I don’t love the look on the models’ face….

I also don’t love the price…..

So I might just have to find a nice long jumper/top from the local little strip shop clothing store and alter it to be similar….

All About Eve Athletic Dress

The other option is to get a basic long sleeve t-shirt pattern and alter it yourself! Or perhaps you could find a scoop neck t-shirt in your wardrobe and make a pattern from that, then sew it up in a fleecy fabric….

This pattern from Burda is not too bad:

Find it here

It is a very easy piece to make…..

Now THAT sounds like a plan….stay tuned!!! This will be my upcoming Spring Fashion project!

Bonds make an oversized sloppy Joe that is kinda getting there….and you might be lucky enough to find it on special somewhere….

One of my winter lusts was this jumper below and I recently found it on sale so it is now on it’s way to my sticky little hands!!! Knowing Melbourne and it’s weather I should have a chance to wear it while it is still cold and then stockpile it for next year.

Today I love….Pretty Little Mistakes

29 Jul

I stumbled upon this book by accident at my local library….

After reading the concept I was sold!

I was totally in love with the Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was younger and this book is along the same lines….except it is chick-lit….and it is in-your-face baby!

I got shot in the face with a .38 in a traffic dispute the first time I read this book! Wow! That one shocked me! The next time I chose my own path, I was addicted to meth and killed by cervical cancer….the next time I also died a horrible death….unfortunately I have not yet found a happy ending in this book but I figure there must be at least one out of a possible one hundred and fifty endings!! Apologies if some of this post does not make sense – back pain is my friend tonight folks….

Today I love….Kitchen Yoga

28 Jul

With my recent run of bad back problems, a friend of mine suggested I start doing yoga to try to strengthen my back to alleviate the problems I keep experiencing and lo and behold look what I found by accident today!!!

Kitchen Yoga by Ruth Shaw….

You can download sample travel cards and also a sample of the book from the above link….

Who is Kitchen Yoga for?

Kitchen Yoga has been designed for young people and seniors alike; for the retired and the active; for experienced yogis and tentative beginners; and for survivors of bad backs, frozen shoulders, bum knees, broken bones, and broken hearts.

Target your hot spots:

The heart of KITCHEN YOGA is comprised of 8 warm ups and 16 easy to follow yoga poses, which are divided into 4 colour coded chapters or “series”. Each series addresses the most common “hot spots” of pain and discomfort i.e. Shoulders, Back and Hips as well as a Balancing series, which strengthens and supports the other three areas.

What about my level?

To help you find your personal level of expertise, each of the 24 warm-ups and poses is accompanied by the unique 3-LEVEL CHILI SYSTEM. 1 chili – beginner, 2 chilis- intermediate,
3 chilis- advanced.

Today I love….Dodgy pic of the Shellac chip

27 Jul

ALERT, ALERT, ALERT!!!

We have a chip people!!!

In the apparently un-chippable hybrid nail colour!!!

I will admit I am definitely not the nicest person to my fingernails….they have to function….and I make them perform!! They break and hence they chip…this I fear, is the cause of THE chip! I can see a little dent in my fingernail where the chip lies…so I do believe it is my fingernails’ fault, not the polish!

We have definite regrowth after only 4 days (wow, my nails grow quickly!) almost 3-4mm by my count….

The hands are a little itchy, but the rest of my eczema has also flared up because I have decreased my medication lately so….there may be other reasons to observe here….

At the moment I don’t care because I love, love, love my new nails….I haven’t had many compliments but people probably assume I have just spent an hour that morning applying my nail polish because it always looks so fresh and so new!

My apologies for the dodgy photo – naturally when I went to take some pics of my nails, the battery in the camera went flat and I have no replacement on hand!

Lo and behold the dodgy pic of the chip….oh, and the regrowth! Check it out!!!

Let me know what you think lovely people!!!

Today I love….accidentally doing an Angelina Jolie….

27 Jul

So if you’ve been reading you’ll already know that I went and got a fringe cut lately….I tried to do a Kandee Johnson cut by myself but I think I had one (or two!) too many wines that night because it didn’t look as good as I thought it did the next morning!

I have not been able to give you all a photo yet because my laptop was upgraded to Windows 7 and then the SD memory reader mysteriously stopped working so I had to find the new driver to make it work – but now I am back with photos for you all!! But anyway, back to the interesting stuff….

So I went to the hairdresser and I told her how I wanted my fringe cut – deep (ie. far back from my forehead line) to make the fringe thick with a blunt cut….she looked at me funny and said why do you want it like that? I explained to her that I know my hair and it if is not cut deep and therefore thick, it will jump up and curl – my hair needs the weight behind it to stay straight….so she did it and I am very happy with the results….

I won a makeover trip to Sydney in 2005 for Notebook magazine and the hair stylist Kimberley Johnston did this style for me then and it worked so well with my hair so I knew it would work again….this is one of the ‘after’ pics….

Then I saw the preview for Salt – the new Angelina Jolie movie and – wow! Look at her hair!!!

Cut deep, thick and blunt – just like me! So I must be onto something here, hey folks???

Stay tuned for the latest pic of my hair!!!

Today I love….Puffing Billy & Mini Monsters

26 Jul

Oh what fun we had at Puffing Billy!

“Puffing Billy – one of Victoria’s most popular tourist attractions. Manned mostly by volunteers, the old train chugs through the Dandenong Ranges, from Belgrave to Gembrook and back again, every day (except Christmas day and on days of total fire ban). This trestle bridge, at Selby, is a popular place for photographs.”

Puffing Billy Lakeside Park

It was a very icy day but Mr. Big and I both agreed that it was the best time to go as you get to see the beauty of the land and a whole lot of steam coming out of that train!!!

You also get a chance to buy nice hot drinks along the way and then when you get home you definitely have a love affair going on with your heater!!!

I want to go and do their Luncheon special one day….it is a little pricey but I am sure it would be worth it and I’ll be putting it on the wishlist!!! The boys loved it, my back didn’t appreciate the two hours of rickety travel….but it was worth  it!

A little later in the afternoon, look what I found growling around my house!!

Today I love….Shellac Photos and Update….

23 Jul

Well I hate to say it folks, I love, love, love my new fingernails but my hands are itchy!!!

Now let’s remember this could be for  number of reasons….

I gave my cat some love tonite (I am allergic to cats – yeah I know = silly me! That’s another story), the leftover powder/chemicals on the nail salon table that has got on to my hands and not washing my hands straight after the treatment to remove any of this, stress (always a factor!)….

Let’s not get too excited now….let’s just all cross our fingers and our toes that all will be fine!!!

I’ll keep you posted!!!

Doncha just love, love, love my colour???!!!

Here is my dodgy picture of my new CND Shellac Nails! It took 40 mins….in and out girls!!! Get on it NOW!!!

Today I love….Creative Nail Design Shellac

21 Jul

Everybody say HOORAY for Creative Nail!!!

I have worked for and used Creative Nail a very long time ago and they were always a quality, long lasting and easy to apply product.

Now they have set the benchmark way above all the other nail polishes out on the market….the Creative Nail Shellac goes on like polish, dries under a UV lamp and then lasts for 2 weeks – flawlessly!!! No chips, no smudges and best of all the polish is ‘3 free’ – this is THE best news for me as now I can finally paint my nails again! (eczema = can’t wear nail polish) – so Creative Nail Design – today I super dooper LOVE, LOVE, LOVE you!!!

I am getting my first application on Saturday so stay tuned for the pics and my review of the product folks….which colour should I get though!!!???

“Like any quality polish application, the Shellac system features a Base Coat, Color Coat and Top Coat. Together with a UV Lamp, they comprise the breakthrough in resilient color that remains flawless for two weeks and removes in 10 minutes.

“Better science makes better products. The patent-pending formulation of solvents, monomers and polymers is why Shellac™ goes on like polish, wears like gel and removes in minutes. Plus it’s hypo-allergenic and 3-FREE… containing no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP.”

“Shellac—stands miles apart from others in the market with the science and testing to back it up. Nail Professionals that participated in more than 4 years of controlled, blind testing said unanimously—there’s no comparison—not even close!”

Today I love….Hasselback Potatoes

20 Jul

My grandfather taught me to make these….a very long time ago….and I love, love, love them!!!

They are of Swedish origin and yes, they do take a little longer to chop up than normal roast spuds but the upside of this is that the potato does cook quicker and you will end up with beautifully crunchy roast spuds EVERY time – guaranteed!!!

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Nutmeg/Garlic if you’re feelin’ fancy!!!

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. Chop your potatoes in half length-ways so they are as long as possible. Place one half of a potato, cut side down on a board and make thin, evenly spaced cuts at 5mm intervals, about two-thirds of the way through.
  3. Place in a bowl. Repeat with remaining potatoes.
  4. Add oil and seasonings as you wish to potatoes. Season with salt and pepper and toss to combine.
  5. Place in a roasting pan. Bake in oven, turning occasionally, for less than 1 hour or until golden brown and crisp. Transfer to a serving bowl to serve.

Today I love….One-Ingredient Ice Cream

20 Jul

Usually I freeze my old bananas to make into a banana cake…..(this is my Mumma training here)……

Then I found this great idea for using up the old frozen banana stockpile…..

It is way too cold in my part of the world to be eating any ice cream whatsoever but I hear there is a massive heat wave in the US of A so maybe someone over there will find this helpful and cooling – please let me know if you make it!

The best thing about this recipe is how easy it actually is to make!

The second best thing is it contains no fat, no cholesterol and no added sugar – just yummy, creamy and sweet bananas!

You will need about 4 frozen bananas (or 1 per person). Break them into chunks (if you can, muscle woman/man) and put them in the food processor. Pulse the processor a few times to break up the chunks then turn on full bore and run for about 5 minutes; scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally (make sure you STOP the food processor 1st!). Place the mix in a bowl and re-freeze to firm for about 15 minutes or bugger that and just eat it!!! A spoonful of Milo (or drinking chocolate) and some chopped nuts goes beautifully served with the ice cream.

Yes, so the title of this post is ‘One Ingredient Ice Cream’…..theoretically you could do this with ANY frozen fruit – berries probably work best but let me know what you try (a mix of fruit maybe?) and please let me know how you go!!!

If you are still feelin’ HOT HOT HOT, check out my Honey Ice Cream post!!!

This is also a great idea – get your bananas and fill ’em up with chocolate chunks then bake ’em or whack them on the barbie (BBQ/Hotplate for you non-Aussies out there) to get some chocolatey banana-ery goodness!

Or aren’t these pretty????

Pretty damn easy for the little kiddies to do as well I say….

Today I love….a Fluttery Breath of Life

20 Jul

Pretty, fluttery, silky, gorgeous and dainty – yep it’s Butterflies people!!!

Now, who doesn’t love a bootiful butterfly???

19 Jul

So Mr. Big has moved into my life and has now moved into my home as well…..everybody say yay for me!!!

Oh love, love, love….two lovebirds in the tub….

(Note: when I say ‘new’ in the following…I mean new as in ‘newly’ organised, sorted and recently re-designed spaces….)

I love my new bedroom, I love my new bed (Mr. Bigs’), I love my new lounge room/dining room, I love my new kitchen….with a work/craftspace for me! I love my new garage….and I love my inbuilt furniture removalist….and my live-in dishwasher….I love the new room for the little munchkins….

I have culled my clothes, I have culled the bathroom (and added cute little stickers to the tiles on the wall for the kiddies!), I have culled the lounge room and the kitchen…I still have to cull the garage but that will come….

My problem is now my room seems to be overrun with jewellery! I really don’t own valuable jewellery but the pieces I own I really do love. I have also recently culled this area of my life so only now have the items that are useful and used!! How to store them though? At the moment I have the obligatory boxes and trees and hangers but these utensils are just not cutting the mustard! How do you store your jewellery???

Ahhhhh the ultimate…..

Or even better….

Now all I have to do is convince Mr. Big to make me one!!! Wish me luck folks….

Or make your own shadow box….
