Today I Love……A Real Aussie Meal Deal…….

24 Aug

A real Aussie Meal….

Sorry, I got distracted looking up “Aussie”

Hello!! It’s been a while, I know – Apologies!

Still here, still kicking; did some blog tweaks tonite….some of you may even notice a difference (*prays and hopes*) – my links are on it now!

Pinterest? DO.NOT.EVEN.GO.THERE.

With the complete and absolute awesomeness of this website – even more and more and more beautiful stunning pictures of precious lovely products and ideas for me to look at every single day! Brilliant, I say! Bloody Brilliant!

Ah, this is apparently a monkey…..cute! 🙂

Anyhoo……back to the topic………Aussie? Oi!

“Aussie, aussie, aussie! Oi, oi, oi!!”

I am that Australian that I actually OWN a badge that says Oi!

WITH the punctuation and everything…..I’ll try and find it if you want me to….

When I was a child, I collected badges….I passed most of them on to my (other) little cousin as he also does the same thing (!) but kept the special ones that could not ever be replaced for me…..

Damn….I’ve done it again! BACK to the TOPIC Catrina….

Note to you and me: I’d be completely stuffed if I had a word limit on my blog!

 Lately….we’ve been eating a lot of chicken….I like chicken….

BUT the big man….is obviously a BIG man and big men need the……..MEAT!

Well, apparently they do, and this one does as well…..

I’ve been even more turned off lately by reading (and hearing) about the bowel cancer levels in meat eaters and problems later in life that people suffer when they eat a lot of (red) meat. Skinny Bitch? Do you know what I am talking about???!!?? Well, you should! Look it up!!

The big man says, I’m sick of chicken! Oh, OK, let me see what I can do about that my gorgeous sweet ‘sun and stars’….(see: Game of Thrones reference!)

Tonight I went to the shops; had a look at the meat in the butcher and went to Coles…..I don’t think I need to explain much further when I tell you I went back to the butcher…..check this out for a gorgeous slab of true blue aussie beef!!!

Served with crunchy chips, thick onion gravy and a dirty fried egg = GOLD on a plate!!!

YUM!! Nite, nite now……xxx

Today I love….Sparky!

24 Jun

She’s so fine……..

 Beep, Beep!

I received a random email not too long ago.

“Hi there What I Love Today! We love your blog and would like you to take a brand new Holden Barina for a week to test drive and then review! How does that sound?”

Um, der…..I’m IN!!!

Thanks to Holden and their Blogger Outreach Program…..and my lovely friend who I was brought back in touch with via facebook and I thank you for that Mark! She is a wonderful person and that friendship I do miss……

So I went to collect my little spunky Sparky one rainy, dark and cold evening in the Melbourne CBD…..

Not having much of a chance to see the exterior of the car, I jumped in the drivers seat, signed my papers, received my instructions and I was away!

I have not driven a manual car for six years, but this car was an absolute dream to drive! I think it drove itself most of the time! Stall count over 1 week period: maybe about 4….not too bad I say!

So, I drove home…..onto the freeway…..what a great steering wheel – I wonder if my Vienta will handle getting one of those babies installed?!!

The side mirrors….something is very strange there…..

So I got to the end of the freeway and then my bff rang me – “Where are you? Have you got the car yet!?”

Oh shit I say! “I thought you were going to call me when you finished Uni?”

So then I’m doing a u-turn for the first time in this car – the turning circle on my own car is pitiful – this thing would turn around in a one car garage I think!

Back on the freeway…….zooming along….this car is very comfortable and such a smooth ride!

Picked up the bff, parked in the bike lane and got dirty looks from some cyclists – hey, wait a minute –

My car is not much bigger than your bike! Go away!

Back onto the freeway –

OH NO! What was that flash!? God dammit – speed camera! 😦

*Note to Holden: SORRY!!!! I really didn’t mean it – I was getting used to the speedometer! I don’t like it at all – I need the little tiny lines in between the 50 and 55 mark…..telling me 50 or 55 is no good – cos I like to drive 52 if I can! Apart from that – I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the dash is directly behind the steering wheel and not recessed – I thought it would be annoying having it so close but it turned out fine. I did however, turn down the dash light all the way to low and kept it there the whole time. Dark is dark. It’s not gonna get much darker I reckon!

Anyhoo……we keep going…..indicate to change lanes….oh, wait the damn rear windscreen wiper has just gone on and I can’t figure out how to turn the damn thing off and it’s dark and she can’t find it either and now the lights are flashing; no it’s not on that side! Oh, dear me……then we miss our exit……laughs and laughs and laughs and laughs – finally figured out the wiper controls and it’s all extremely funny – at least we are lucky and can still get off at the next exit and get home ok. Oh, dear me…..

So I drop the bff off and head home…..wait, why is that funny headlight on? OH NO did I have my high beams on the whole way home? No, new cars have advanced since I bought and crashed mine 😦 – they are fog lamps! Der…. I found the high beams no worries and then I finally got the whole fog lamp thingy before I gave it back after my Dad said you stupid woman – look there are extra lights there! Yep, I am BLOND.

The back passenger doors also had me stumped for a split second – or two! The handle is not where you look and not where you normally reach for! It also got another one of my blondie friends really good – she said “Where is the damn handle!?” Crack up city there……

The kids also loved it….when I picked them up they said oh wow it’s a smartie car! Which is pretty true. After not having much of a chance to view the vehicle before I drove it, I got out of the car when I FINALLY reached home and said – OH MY GOD! Look at the size of the thing – it is seriously TINY! But then seriously DID NOT FEEL like it when I was driving it! The car corners like it is on rails and it makes me want to turn corners more, because it handles them so damn well!

We had a 6’2” man in the back seat one day – he was fine and very comfortable apparently! Which surprised me greatly – it is TINY I say! TINY!!!! My ex-flatmate bought a Barina, but not the Spark model – I like this one much, much better than hers! It has all the lovely bells and whistles!

LOVED LOVED LOVED the leather seats – so smooth and sexy!

Note to self: Leather car seat covers for my car? $$$ = ouch I assume!

The sunglass holder is way too small….come on! Look in the magazines – I think reading glasses would fit in there and that’s it! The number of airbags also worry me – I am quite sure they are safe but they make me feel like I would be like a squashed little marshmallow if they all went off at once! That may be a good thing though…..

We took the Sparky down to Ocean Grove for a night……the big man was not very comfortable in the seats but they suited me very well – they hugged my body beautifully but I can also see how they would be too small for him.

What is with those side mirrors? It was very disconcerting on the freeway when trying to pass other cars or see how close the car was next to me. I think they are meant to emphasise your blind spot but all they did for me was make it seem like the cars were further away than they really were! Then if I turned to see my blind spot, there was a lot of wall/door in the way!

Whatever happened to: “Warning: Objects in mirror are closer than they appear” ????

The other problem was it was an extremely windy day when we drove home…..not good in a little car at all! I had a few difficulties getting used to controlling it in the wind.

What a wonderful surprise!

Yes, I would probably buy one if I could…….talk to me in 10 years time….you can win yourself a lovely little Barina if you design your very own Spark!

I’ve done mine……here it is…..

Today I love….Me! Do you love you??

15 Apr

You know what??

When I am feeling down, a little creative/expressive/extroverted or need inspiration…guess where I go??

My blog! :0

(Listen to Plans by Birds of Tokyo while reading this post – hint, hint)

Yep, cos I always know there will be something there that I need at that time….you know how when you are driving sometimes and that perfect song comes on the radio for that moment in your life? Or like when you open the fridge and straight away you find what you really wanted but didn’t know that you needed? Or when you go to the shops and you find everything that you need in 5 minutes flat and it’s so easy peasy….or when the petrol tank just miraculously keeps on going……

Oh wait, I’m talking about life!

Sometimes it just works out well and awesome….and sometimes it just doesn’t….

I used to be one of those people that thought nothing bad could ever happen to me.

It worked for a while, but then people interfere in your life, you get sick, bad things happen, trusted people let you down and you also let yourself down. I am the sort of person that can pick themselves up and keep going though – a lot of people that I know can’t actually do that. I am determined to make my life better every single day of the life that I have. I hope that I am making little steps towards that aim.

So anyhoo….back to the norm….what pleasures do I have for you today?

Just a few select gems lovely readers…..

Why does no one comment? Don’t be shy! Come and say HI Cat!!!! xx :0

This one is all me….

Today we have sexy gorgeous stunning beautiful to-die-for….Horses!!! Do you love them as much as me? Let me know! xx

Today I love….An Infinite amount of Space….

17 Dec

An infinite amount of…..S.P.A.C.E

No, no, no, not Space as in the Final Frontier either!

I NEED (not just want!) an infinite amount of space in my home!!!

My blog is my reflective journal, beheld within are the many treasures I have discovered and now fondly hold dear to my heart.

My own personal space…..is at times both a wonderful and very stressful thing!!!

My partner is a furniture removalist and unfortunately we have no room left for any more pieces of random furniture on our house!  As a self-confessed hoarder, it is really not possible to obtain any more useless and unnecessary possessions!

One day, I hope to have the time to clear my clutter but I do not foresee this in the near future!  I have an emotional attachment to my things as well – when I was about 15 and my parents separated all of my childhood possessions were donated to charity and I never saw any of the things I owned from birth ever again.  I was also robbed recently twice in three weeks and that has made me a little more careful that I remember not to leave my diamond ring on the lounge room coffee table before I go to work = silly girl!  So at least I know WHY I like to hang on to things!!! It’s an emotional attachment and a great fear that my possessions will be lost from me forever again.

One of my favourite pastimes right now is watch MTV Cribs.  I just can’t get enough of looking at the beautiful homes the celebrities have.  I watch the show and dream that I may be able to have all those wide and wonderful open spaces, large lounge rooms, super huge wardrobes the size of half of my current house, beds that you could fit 10 people in and spa baths that are the size of my current bedroom.  Then I look around at my space and sigh….perhaps one day I will have the room to move that I so desire….then maybe I can get more stuff! Ha Ha Ha NO! I hear you scream!

Here is a part of Christina Aguilera’s house – you can find more pics here

I believe I could utilise my current space a lot better.  Have you ever pondered the possibilities of space?

Space is an infinite thing but we impose limitations and boundaries are self imposed within the construct of our minds.  Space ebbs onwards into the universal echelons, so vast; our wee human minds find difficulty in comprehending the enormity.  Yet as humans, we have the power to determine the boundaries, qualities and characteristics of our space.  Space is therefore multidimensional, the channel in which individual and collective action arises simultaneously.  This interconnected platform provides a medium for communication whereby time, distance and location are traversed both locally and globally from the comfort of our homes.  Yet how we choose to interact with this space has the potential to impact our social, economic and environmental ethos from both a personal and planetary perspective.

What is this space I am eluding too?

A very good friend of mine is an interior designer and you can just tell she cringes every time she comes through my door!  But at least she appreciates my personal style and ditto.  She  does give me some hints and tips occasionally to try and help me improve my mess of a lounge room!  And (silly or smart??!) me has also just started a jewellery and accessories business from home, so we have boxes of jewellery, handbags, clothing etc. just to add to the rest of the things I bring home nearly every day!  Wonderful……I hear you say – I will never have infinite space!!!

Something that really creeps me out is when people invade on my personal space… I don’t mind close talkers or that sort of thing but if someone stands too close behind me in a queue, I cannot resist inching forward to get away from them!

So…..Space….I don’t have enough…..I will probably never have enough or be satisfied with the space I have…BUT if I could have an infinite amount…..all my problems would therefore be solved…….

I have been selected from a handful of bloggers to participate in a competition for Vodafone to promote their lovely new product above; which I believe I will be needing very soon!

I’m not too sure how you can help me win, but please feel free to leave a comment or rate this post if you do or do not like it!

Today I love….Kawaii

3 Oct

Am I speaking English?

Well maybe not…..Kawaii is……

literally, “loveable” “cute” or “adorable” and has become a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, entertainment, clothing, food, toys, personal appearance, behavior, and mannerisms.[1]

I found Kawaii – thanks to Blythe, and my sister-in law’s Footpath travels to overseas lands….

One really cool site I love, love, love checking in on all the time is Spoonflower – last month they had a Kawaii competition for the best Kawaii fabric design! Here it is….

BYE 🙂

For now!!! 🙂

Today I love….Message Burger….

23 Sep

Hello there!! How special am I?

I know I look very tasty and you really want to gobble me up but you just can’t eat me!

See???

Well, you can try…but you won’t get very far! I want one of these sets badly!

So I can give them to the kids to play with and watch the joy on their faces!

Yeah, right – hang on….I want some joy tooooooo!!!

message burger – shop – upon a fold

“Who said fast food isn’t good for you? We’ll have two burgers with the lot, thanks! Good enough to eat, this message burger comes with 24 cards – all in the form of yummy burger fillings! There are fried eggs, two types of cheese, bacon, beef patties, lettuce, buns, pickles and more. You’ll have enough ingredients to make two burgers and there is even a die-cut burger box for storing away all your fillings. This is such a fun gift to give someone… especially if the way to their heart is through their stomach. Each piece comes ready to pop-out and you can use them to write messages on or create your very own piece of burger art. Made in Japan, this kit measures 27cm x 24cm and when completed 9.5cm x 11cm x 4cm. Hungry?”

I bloody well am now!!!

No…I really just want and NEED to play with these!!!

Today I love….Silken Ladders

21 Aug

It’s so nice to know that some people are out there living their dreams…..and then sharing them with us!

Thanks to Anna for sharing this with me, and now you! Enjoy and celebrate……..

“In the North Yorkshire Moors, in a snowy dark wood, in a little log cabin……Tom and Anna hid away from the world with only their guitars to keep them company……

Inspired by their surroundings, they sang their hearts out, they wrote songs, they recorded these songs and without knowing it, created Silken Ladders.

These songs come from the heart. They sing about the bird that kept them awake outside the cabin, about sleeping rough in a cave, about Granny’s attic and the seals that live amongst the industrial waste land near their cabin in Middlesbrough. With a folky sound, their music is harmonious, uplifting, touching, melodic and original. They have been working on their first album ‘Our Lost Songs’ which is due for release in February 2010.”

Today I love….Turning your light off….

16 Aug

Oopsie!!!

I keep turning Mr. Bigs’ light off!

What the hell? I hear you say….

Let me explain….

At some point in my life….(we’ll just blame my thrifty pom Mother for this influence!)….

I have been taught to always turn the light off when leaving a room….so every now and again, I leave the room and turn the light off when Mr. Big is still there and leave him sitting in the dark! He is not very impressed at all….but I just can’t help it! Tonight after being left in the dark, he said to me – “Thanks for that”, so I walked off and thought he was giving me a compliment for something! As I said, oopsie!!!

To my Mr. Big, I sincerely apologise for all the other times I will definitely turn off your light!!!

This is kinda the reverse of how some people can’t close doors after they enter them – in aussie land we call this being born in a tent!

What do you do unconsciously???

Today I love….Sliding Doors

16 Aug

Why did my life turn out this way?

Don’t get me wrong – the problem isn’t that I am not happy – I believe I am very happy….and I am thankful for my life….I am (reasonably) healthy, employed and loved, well housed, fed and clothed….I don’t actually want for much at all!

When I was growing up, I always envisaged that I would be in a different place to where I am now….

For instance….by time my Mother was my age, she had an 8 year old daughter (me) and another baby imminently due! (my brother)….of course times change….

Me, on the other hand….no children of my own (yet) but I do help look after Mr. Bigs’ kids every 2nd weekend and school holidays etc. and they are a lovely little handful of joy!!!

We do have plans however…

I thought I would have travelled the world….

I thought I would have bought 1 (if not 2) house(s) and/or made my dream home into dreamy spaces….

I thought I would have made a career for myself (not just a job!) and found my niche in the world…..I always thought I was here to make a difference in others lives….

I can’t help myself thinking….what if?

I have some regrets, yes….but what if I had taken that job?

What if that boyfriend didn’t dump me?

What if I had taken that choice instead of this one?

What if I had taken that road instead of this one?

What if someone had told me all those years ago, how hard it was going to be for me to own my own home…would I have listened? I like to think so….but I am probably kidding myself!

So now, I have some work to do….by the time I am 40 I have some things that I simply must do! So, I’ll need to write my list of things to do before 40 very soon! Stay tuned for that post!

I need to achieve…..I need to find my purpose in life and I need to be happy with the path I am on and I need to love, love, love myself again and not feel like such a failure all of the time….

I also want to know….what would you have told your younger self?

Today I love….Puffing Billy & Mini Monsters

26 Jul

Oh what fun we had at Puffing Billy!

“Puffing Billy – one of Victoria’s most popular tourist attractions. Manned mostly by volunteers, the old train chugs through the Dandenong Ranges, from Belgrave to Gembrook and back again, every day (except Christmas day and on days of total fire ban). This trestle bridge, at Selby, is a popular place for photographs.”

Puffing Billy Lakeside Park

It was a very icy day but Mr. Big and I both agreed that it was the best time to go as you get to see the beauty of the land and a whole lot of steam coming out of that train!!!

You also get a chance to buy nice hot drinks along the way and then when you get home you definitely have a love affair going on with your heater!!!

I want to go and do their Luncheon special one day….it is a little pricey but I am sure it would be worth it and I’ll be putting it on the wishlist!!! The boys loved it, my back didn’t appreciate the two hours of rickety travel….but it was worth  it!

A little later in the afternoon, look what I found growling around my house!!

Today I love….Marvelous Melbourne

8 Jul

My home town….Melbourne, Victoria, Australia….

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!! Oi, Oi, Oi!!!

Here is a wonderful little short film about olde Melbourne town that I came across – by Chris Costuna….

Melbourne (pronunciation: /ˈmɛlbərn/, locally also [ˈmælbən, -bn̩][3][citation needed]) is the capital and most populous city in the state of Victoria, and also the second most populous city in Australia.[2] The Melbourne City Centre (also known as the “Central Business District” or “CBD”)[4] is the hub of the greater geographical area (or “metropolitan area”) and the Census statistical division—of which “Melbourne” is the common name. As of late 2009, the greater geographical area had an approximate population of 4 million.[1][5] A resident of Melbourne is known as a “Melburnian”.[6]

Today I love….Cadels Tour….

7 Jul

Yeah, yeah, yeah I can hear you sighing from over there!

“What the hell, she’s talking about sport now? Has she gone mad?” – I hear you ask….

Whatever, all I can say is I have a vested interest in the Tour and I may be a little biased as well….

I love, love, love the Tour because my cousin is in it!

If your cousin was Cadel Evans you would probably be the same way….so we all say Go Cadel! As we always have….

I wish I could say that we had the time and schedules to catch up lately but that has not been the case….I am sure he is giving it his all this year not only for himself and of course his team but our very ill grandfather as well….

The only thing I don’t love, love, love about the Tour is that man on the commentary – don’t get me wrong I believe he is an excellent commentator and he has on occasion had me in stiches…. but his voice just makes me want to go to sleep and the sound of Mr. Big snoring on the couch next to me now is complete proof of that!

Although when I switched over to the coverage this evening, I felt a nice little warm and fuzzy feeling on hearing THE voice…..

So, here is the plug –

Keep it up Cadel and please do something wonderful so that I don’t succumb to the voice and fall asleep!!

A very bad (but I still think lovely), old pic of Cadel and his Mum on the beach….

Today I love…How to Simplify When You Love Your Stuff

6 Jul

I believe this article may just have been written for me!

I am actually currently in the process of downsizing and kid-proofing my house of junk (pleasure)….anyone who knows me will tell you that I have a lot of stuff (crap)….but this is all a good thing – ie. good for me; good for my sanity (the emotional benefits of de-cluttering are massive as we shall see below), good for my house, good for my finances and good for my health.

My aim is to fit the kids and Mr. Big and all their stuff in comfortably but also make myself a little teeny weeny craft corner in the kitchen so that I can set up the sewing machine and shoe making materials there….and of course all of this will also make Mr. Big feel more at home when he moves in….

This is an excerpt from a great post I found on a fave blog of mine, Zen Habits.

It is a guest post from Barrie Davenport of Live Bold and Bloom

How to Simplify When You Love Your Stuff

Simplifying is liberating and beautiful.

“It all depends on whether you have things, or they have you.” ~Robert A. Cook

Simplicity. It is a lovely ancient spiritual tradition that has seen a recent resurgence in popularity.  As we try to make sense of our erratic economy and the accompanying financial anxiety, it is natural to leap to a less risky lifestyle extreme — stop spending, scale back, live lean.

In spite of embracing the concept of simplicity, most people really love their stuff, and they love acquiring more stuff. Like our attitudes about a healthy diet, our feelings about material things are complicated. We know what’s good for us, but we just don’t want to give up what we like. Our stuff makes us feel good.

Is it possible to live a simple life and still love stuff?

How much letting go of stuff really counts toward simplifying anyway?

Living simply and detaching from material things will make you happier. There is real research and lots of anecdotal evidence to support the truth of this. But is it possible that some material things can add to our happiness, sense of contentment and joy in life? If so, how do you go about deciding what’s good stuff and what’s bad?

Here are some thoughts that might be useful.

1. Look around your house now.

Walk from room to room. Do you see things that you never use and don’t really care about? Why not give them away or sell them? Clear physical and psychic space by removing the “dead wood” in your environment. Someone else might really need these things.

2. Examine why you are hanging on to something.

3. Look at how you spend your time.

Do you have things you own for hobbies that you never pursue? Do you have a kitchen full of gadgets but you rarely cook?

4. Are you in a career that is thing-focused?

5. Consider experiences rather than things.

6. When you think about your things or want to purchase something new, consider these parameters:

  • It brings beauty into your life and stirs your soul.
  • It supports a passion or hobby.
  • It helps bring family and friends together in a creative, meaningful way.
  • It educates and enlightens.
  • It makes life profoundly simpler so that you can pursue more meaningful things.
  • It helps someone who is sick or incapacitated.
  • It is useful and necessary for day-to-day life.
  • It’s part of a meaningful tradition or a reminder of a special event.

7. You will know you are buying mindlessly if you:

  • Buy on a whim.
  • Buy to impress others.
  • Buy because you feel you deserve it.
  • Buy when you can’t afford it.
  • Buy just to update something that still works or looks fine.
  • Buy because someone else has it and you want it too.
  • Buy because the advertisement seduced you.
  • Buy because you are bored.
  • It’s purchased because buying soothes you.

Apply mindful purging to your current lifestyle and belongings, as well as thoughtful consideration to your future purchases. Carefully examine your motivations for keeping possessions or buying new things. Once you allow things to serve your soul, rather than you being a slave to your things, your life will evolve into an artful harmony between what you have and who you are.
